Summary Android was developed by Google as an open Source project based on Linux as a compact but powerful OS supporting touch, graphics, WiFi, 3G and more for phones, tablets and eReaders.

Separate from Google, it was branched to an open source x86 version, primarily for Netbooks and Laptops.
